FAQ

If you have any questions that are not in this list feel free to send us a message with your question

How long are therapy appointments?

Therapy sessions generally last 53 min. To make the most out of your therapy we will help you identify things you can do during the week to advance your healing and learning process. If you are interested in longer sessions you can contact us for the cost of extended time. Insurance companies do not pay for extra time.  If you are using insurance you will have to pay out of pocket for extended sessions.

How do I know if you are the right therapist for me?

The only way to know is to come in for a session. Most people have a good sense of whether one of us will be the right professional to help them within the first session or two. We also offer a free 10 min consultation so you can ask questions and get a better feel for how we may work together. We provide information about ourselves and our individual specialties on this website

Are you seeing clients in person or online?

We are currently seeing most of our clients through Telehealth, however we have a few openings for in person sessions in Asheville for those who have been vaccinated. We are able to see clients throughout North Carolina via Telehealth.

Although there are many advantages of online counseling (it’s convenient, effective, keeps us safe from infectious diseases such as COVID-19), it’s not right for everyone. Online counseling (teletherapy) works best for those with mild to moderate mental health symptoms but not individuals who are suicidal or in crisis as we cannot offer the support you need through Telehealth. It is helpful if you are comfortable using technology, have a quiet, private place to have your sessions. Many individuals find they really enjoy engaging in therapy via Telehealth, some report they feel more comfortable and safe being in their environment and also find they are better able to make appointments because they do not need to plan time for driving to and from their appointments.

What age clients do you work with?

We work with teenagers and adults aged 14 through 100+ . We do not conduct child custody evaluations nor do we provide custody recommendations. We also don’t provide treatment for, psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, etc)

What if I forget or miss an appointment?

We require 24 hours notice of cancellation or you will need to pay a $50 fee for the appointment. An occasional exception may be made in the case of an emergency. It’s important that we meet consistently in order to make progress.
